I am having an experience everyone has eventually, like dreams it's one of those things that is absolutely overwhelming for me, but ordinary and nothing to everyone else. I'm preparing for my 20-year high school reunion.
Yes I did graduate when I was 11... I'm very clever you know! :-)
Facebook makes it interesting. Instead of just getting there and seeing everyone and then leaving, we're having longer conversations, getting to know each other that bit better. Connecting more deeply. Having time to absorb the news, and the changes.
I'm seeing that everyone else is older, too. I've got used to being in the post-35 marketing group. I didn't really expect everyone I went to school to be the same. How can some of my friends be divorced?! They aren't even old enough to be married.
I heard a story once of a woman who got in a lift and realised that the older man she shared it with was the person she'd had a deep crush on at school. She couldn't believe how badly he'd aged, but she was certain it was him. Eventually she plucked up her courage and asked if he'd been at their school during those particular years.
He was surprised, but said he was. And he looked at her for a long time, through his wrinkles, and then asked, 'I think I remember you. Were you my English teacher?'
