I'm a thinker who understands that other messages grow in gaps between what is said and what is meant – and addresses this space directly
I'm a writer who holds the audience’s hand, then releases them to discover thoughts and ideas of their own
I'm an articulator who breaks big ideas into little pieces anyone can hold in their own hand
I'm a believer: in strengths, in possibility, in prayer, in people
I'm an investor in people, who helps them to build on what they’re good at, and rise to their best
I'm a storyteller who captures imaginations and brings them along on the journey
I'm a communicator who believes that it’s not in what you say, it’s in how you make people feel
I'm a change agent who believes that we show what’s important through what we do
I live in a house that looks just like the homes I used to draw as as a child, but 4000 miles from where I grew up - life and love plucked me from the Raccoon Valley at the foot of the Chestnut Ridge (East Tennessee) to just outside Norwich in the east of England.
I share the space in this little house with two wonderful girlies, aged 5 years and almost 2... and my husband of many years, Ray. He grew up in these parts, and has a love for France and the French. So when I finished my degree and set off for Toulouse in the south of France to finish learning the language properly, I met him... and he followed me back to the US.
When after five years we sat back and realised we were spending all our spare time watching BBC dramas on public television, drinking imported PG Tips and reading copies of the International Express - as well as coming back here to get more stocks of Branston Pickle - we pulled up roots and came back to England to live. This is home now, for him, for me, and for our girls. I have dual citizenship with Britain and the US.
My work experience covers almost as much ground as lies between here and home: I have done everything from working in (and appearing on!) television, to working with severely underprivileged inner-city girls, to my present job of working at Aviva. Even though this is a mega-big business, I keep the do-gooder in me happy working in a fantastic team that teaches our staff to improve the company by being good to each other, liking our customers, and doing the right thing.
My job there is Customer Communicaitons Manager, and my team does everything to change our interactions with customers, from creating postcards for staff to send to customers that linger in their minds, to trawling the internet to find conversations we can join about the service the company's giving - and offer to help if we can.
It was in my communications job that I discovered storytelling, and that's led to this blog... to read more about it, see my page 'Why this blog is called TaleCatcher'.
i read, i write, i spend time with my friends and their children. if i had more hours in the day, i would still spend them doing even more of these!
